Topic: Managing Employees

Discrimination is the most burdensome HR violation in organizations today. Despite an ever-growing body of diverse employees, the equitable and consistent treatment of diverse individuals within the workplace has become particularly problematic for various organizational members. This presentation will focus on defining discrimination, providing examples, discussing possible solutions, and a Q&A built around discussing situations audience members face and how these situations may be mitigated, if not eliminated. Together we will discuss the following traits of a diverse workplace: Respect Empathy Selflessness Professionalism Equity Compassion Tact

Speaker(s): Dr. Sean Walker is an Associate Professor of Management in the Department of Management, Marketing, and Information Systems in the College of Business and Global Affairs at The University of Tennessee at Martin. He obtained both his MBA and PhD at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Dr. Walker’s research interest, and primary teaching areas, assess the impact of psychological phenomenon on Human Resources and Organizational Behavior. Dr. Walker is also a Licensed Minister and Mediator, both of which provide him with training to educate students, colleagues, and external agents on how to reach mutually acceptable agreements when faced with conflict within the organization.
