The What, Who, Where, When, Why, and How of Workplace Bullying

As the workforce continues to grow more diverse, the differences between workers will continue to engender conflict. One of the most pressing issues in the workforce today is workplace bullying. The current presentations seeks to explain the following 6 important facets of this growing trend: 1) What is workplace bullying? 2) Who is most likely to be bullied and who is most likely to be the bully? 3) Where (as in which industries) is workplace bullying most likely to occur? 4) When (as in which situations) is workplace bullying most likely to occur? 5) Why is it important for organizations today to pay attention to workplace bullying? 6) How do organizations alleviate, if they can’t eliminate, workplace bullying?

Speaker(s): Dr. Sean Walker is an Associate Professor of Management in the Department of Management, Marketing, and Information Systems in the College of Business and Global Affairs at The University of Tennessee at Martin. He obtained both his MBA and PhD at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Dr. Walker’s research interest, and primary teaching areas, assess the impact of psychological phenomenon on Human Resources and Organizational Behavior. Dr. Walker is also a Licensed Minister and Mediator, both of which provide him with training to educate students, colleagues, and external agents on how to reach mutually acceptable agreements when faced with conflict within the organization.
