Information Security for Small Businesses

The use of the Internet for moving and storing data continues to increase, making the security of organizational systems and information challenging and complex. Being a part of such a connected environment brings with it many benefits, but it also exposes organizations to unique threats. With the goal of increasing awareness, this presentation will focus on the primary security issues impacting small business today and will provide recommendations on how to enhance information and infrastructure security. Dr. Nita Brooks is a professor in the Information Systems and Analytics (ISA) Department in the Jennings A. Jones College of Business at Middle Tennessee State University. She received her Ph.D. in business with a focus in information systems from the University of Arkansas and her MBA in Finance from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She has created and taught a variety of courses in the area of information systems security and assurance: Preventing and Detecting Security Breaches; Intrusion Analysis, Recovery, and Response; and Security Analytics. Currently, she serves as the graduate program director for the ISA Department.
