Topic: Government Contracting

Is contracting with the government your next growth scenario and focus area? The U.S. government is the largest purchaser of goods and services in the world. To educate and assist entrepreneurs in becoming a client of the U.S. government, the SBA Tennessee District Office has launched Drive 8(a). Drive 8(a) is a national effort dedicated to the success of 8(a) firms across the country. The SBA Tennessee District team is committed to recruiting new firms into the 8(a) Business Development Program (including firms located in HubZones, Opportunity Zones, Promise Zones, and minority, veteran, and women owned small businesses). You may be asking: √ Does my business qualify? √ If so, how do I get certification? √ Is 8(a) certification helpful? √ How long does 8(a) certification last? √ If I am 8(a) certified, does that guarantee me a federal contract? √ Can I be 8(a) certified if I am not presumed socially disadvantaged, e.g., Black, Hispanic, Native American, Asian Pacific or Subcontinent Asian? The purpose of this event is to recruit new applicants for the SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program. Each year the federal government's goal is to award at least five percent of all federal contracting dollars to small disadvantaged businesses. If accepted into the SBA's 8(a) program, these social and economically disadvantaged businesses will receive nine years of business development assistance and will also be able to compete for federal contracting dollars by selling their goods and services to the federal government. The government limits competition for certain contracts to businesses that participate in the 8(a) Business Development program, to help provide a level playing field for small businesses owned by socially and economically disadvantaged people or entities. Join us as we uncover the myths and truths of becoming an 8(a) certified small business. Walk away with tangible next steps for your small business. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Small businesses that meet SBA’s size standards and are considered small within their industry – including but not limited to veteran-owned, woman-owned and minority owned. Types of businesses: construction, manufacturing, wholesale trade, transportation and warehousing, information, finance and insurance, professional, scientific, technical, administrative and support, educational, healthcare and social assistance, and other services. ***This is a FREE seminar open to the public, but pre-registration is required. ***
